About Paragon Newfoundlands
My love of newfoundland dogs began in 1983 when my neighbor in Bridgewater, NJ, had her daughter visit with a rescue newf. I was enchanted with this big hairy creature, and I have owned newfoundland dogs ever since.
My first newfoundland was a Landseer (Codessa) from Joan Bendure, a breeder in Erie PA. I remember driving in excess of 7 hours, anxious to pick up my bundle of fluff. She was not a show dog, but, the most wonderful companion for my daughter born in 1985.
After Codessa’s passing, my succeeding newfs were from Pouch Cove Kennels. They were sweet gorgeous dogs, Chewbacca and then Griffin. It was not until such time that I convinced Peggy Helming of Pouch Cove that I would love to breed newfoundlands instead of just showing them, that my kennel began.
My first foundation bitch is a beautiful girl named ‘Danica”. She is a great-great granddaughter of Ch. Pouch Cove’s Favorite Son, “Jake”, the granddaughter of Ch. Darbydales’ All Rise Pouch Cove, “Josh”, who was Best in Show at Westminster in 2004, and daughter of Ch. Pouch Cove’s Head of State, “Jefferson”. Both being known as three of the most prolific sires in breed history. The photos on this site tell the rest of the story.
